Vitacost Products Review: Part One

I was given the opportunity to try quite a few things from Vitacost. This website sells a ton of health products. They also have a brick and mortar store in Las Vegas. I was excited to try these items because some of these products are things I use on a daily basis like the protein powder. I also received products I have been interested in trying like the pre-workout concentrate.

I received creatine, pre-workout concentrate, amino, glutamine, casein, and whey protein complex. These are all items from the ARO Back Series. Some of these items I don't have an interest in using seeing as how they won't fit in with my health and workout goals. For example, the creatine. I decided to give them to my husband to try since he already uses creatine and would love to try some of the other products I can't use. I'll give his review on it soon.

Vitacost Aro Black Series Whey Protein Complex Plus
Flavor: Chocolate Peanut Butter

A protein supplement is part of my daily diet when I am working out 5-6 days a week. I eat a lot protein in my foods, so I usually opt for protein supplements that have less than 30 grams of protein. This claims to have 20 grams. This is a thick powdery substance and it was hard to mix with water. Anytime I mixed a powder substance with any kind of liquid, I always had trouble with little chunks of powder that won't dissolve unless you use a shaker, a blender, or something else that would shake it up really good. Seeing as how this is a thick powdery substance... I expected to deal with that issue. I didn't care for the flavor I was given. It had a horrendous taste. It might taste good to the peanut butter lover, but not for me. It tastes a bit like peanut butter and I hate peanut butter. If I ever bought this in the future I will opt for the vanilla flavor.

Vitacost Aro Black Series Pre-Workout Concentrate
Flavor: Pink Lemonade

This is not something I would use on a daily basis. I would take this supplement only on days when I am seriously dragging with no energy. On days where I don't feel like working out and I have to push myself to not only workout, but to get through the workout as well. Doesn't matter how healthy you eat and how active you are... we all get those days where we are just dragging through the day and feeling sluggish. I have tried everything from energy drinks to energy shots and I hated them all. They gave me a boost, but not without the jitters hours after taking it, and I can forget about the cola energy drinks! They mess me up pretty badly! I feel like total crap hours later. The flavor I was given is one of my favorites. It doesn't taste the best, but it tastes pretty good for a supplement of this sort. It mixes very well with water. The directions tell you to mix 1 scoop with 8 oz water and that you can use up to 3 servings per day. This product also contains caffeine which is something I usually stay away from during the weight loss period except for the occasional cup of coffee. It states under the warning label that each serving contains as much caffeine as about 2 cups of coffee. I loved the boost I got and no jitters afterwards. I took it a few hours before my workout on a day I seriously need some energy to push through my workout. Not only was I able to get through it, but I was able to work 2 times harder during. After my workout I still had tons of energy and cleaned my entire house which was lacking lately due to my energy levels and well.... I was feeling super lazy, lol. Sometimes, either my workout suffers or my household chores suffer when it comes to lack of energy on some days. This is definitely something I will be adding to my list of health/fitness tools.

Keep a lookout for the 'part 2' posting.

Disclosure: I have received these products free for product review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ozeri WeightMaster 400 lbs Digital BMI Scale Review

I got a new scale!!!!!! I loved my Weight Watchers digital scale I used during round 1 of my weight loss, but unfortunately I had to give it up before I moved because I didn't feel like shipping it. I thought about getting another one, but saw that the Ozeri WeightMaster digital scale got way better reviews and I liked the features it had when making my selection.

I have been using this scale for about a week and so far I love it! I love watching it light up green when it shows weight loss. The only hangup I have about this scale is that it's hard to capture my number and info through a photo because of the lit up screen. I have to angle it a certain way, at a certain distance and let the camera focus until it shows up and with certain lighting. Would be nice to have an option to turn it on and off. Other than that, I have no complaints about this scale. It is accurate for me and I was so worried that I wouldn't love it as much as I did my Weight Watchers scale and that one didn't even have all the functions and capabilities that the Ozeri WeightMaster has.

The scale has 2 modes. The user profile mode and basic weighing mode. The basic weighing mode is just that, basic weighing. Your current weight is displayed without having it saved to memory. The user profile mode will record your current weight, BMI, and display the net weight changes between your current weight and your last recorded weight. One of the functions I love about the scale is when you put it into user mode to have it record a weighing, it lights up green when you've lost weight and red if you've gained. That function only works on the user profile setting.

The photo to the right shows the first weighing I did on this scale. The one above with the green light below the weight notifying me that my weight has went down was taken the next morning to test it out to make sure the weight loss/gain function works. In the bottom right corner where it says "L3" 1.5... that is the net weight (the average between 3 previously recorded weights). There is also an "L7" which gives the average of the last 7 weight recordings and L1 is the net weight between your current weight and your last recorded weight.. I won't really be paying too much attention to these. All in all I like the new scale and the extra features and functions it has that my last one didn't.

I can't stress this enough though....... the numbers on the scale aren't the most important thing. The scale can be a helpful tool in seeing where you are number wise, but the most important thing to pay attention to is your body and how it's changing. With round 1 of my weight loss I only weighed myself once a month. Not everyday, not once a week, not even once every 2 weeks. ONCE a month. I saw the numbers go down and down every month. You can see all of my previous weigh-ins in the monthly weigh-ins album on facebook. Your weight fluctuates daily and weekly so there is no point in doing weigh ins more than once or twice a month. It's the way your body is changing and the measurements you really want to pay attention to. That is what matters most!

Stroller Friendly

Being a new mom is awesome! It's tiring at times, but awesome! I guess you could say I was one of the lucky ones when it came to losing baby weight after the pregnancy. I lost it all naturally within 3 weeks after the birth and without any effort. It just fell off. However, now I am left with a bit of hanging skin that I need to tone up. With that being said I am so excited to start working out and running again after a year of not running or working out consistently. I just put in my first registration of the year for a race event held in May called the Bubble Run.

While looking for my first race/run to register for I started thinking about what I was looking for in a race/run. I was looking for something fun, something that might also give out some awesome race bling, and one that was "stroller friendly". I really wanted my daughter to be apart of it and to have some fun. I came across the Bubble Run which is stroller friendly. I was so excited as soon as I found this race. The thought of running a race with my daughter in her stroller and through a ton of foam instantly gave me a feeling of being on cloud 9. The fact that I can do what I love and have my daughter with me to experience it no matter how young is just amazing. I can't wait to take my little girl for some bubbly fun.

This isn't saying that I am limiting myself to only stroller friendly races and runs. I'm just saying that it makes things easier when I am able to take her with me versus finding a babysitter who can babysit her for a few hours and me worrying about whether she is doing ok or not. It's not an easy task finding stroller friendly races. Usually you have to search around the race website to find out whether strollers are allowed on the course or not. It's a hassle depending on the website. For that very reason I am going to start marking the races I sign up for and post under my racing schedule that are stroller friendly.

I'm baaaaack.......

Hey everyone!! After taking a year's break from my weight loss efforts, the blog, and all social media dealing with Huff 'n Puff to Buff 'n Tough... I am back!! October 2013 I put everything on hold and took a break to allow myself to make the big and difficult move from my beautiful 2nd home in Hawaii back to my hometown for awhile. I had quite the difficulty settling in and I was battling full on depression again after being off treatment after the move. A couple months (2 weeks into the new year) later my husband and I found out we were expecting our first baby. It was then that I decided to continue my hiatus throughout my pregnancy.

My beautiful daughter, Harlie Jade was born on September 18th, 2014. One day after my due date. After the move and before my pregnancy I gained 20 lbs (in 2 months) of the 57 lbs I had lost in 7 months in 2013. During my pregnancy I gained 40 lbs and was back to my starting weight (highest weight ever, non-pregnancy weight) and then some at 285 lbs. After the pregnancy all of my baby weight fell off naturally within 3 weeks and I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. After a year and 3 months of not consistently working out and not eating the healthiest and with a pregnancy, I managed to keep off 37 lbs total during my hiatus. I think that is a HUGE accomplishment seeing as how in the past I would gain everything back plus more and become lazy and give up and continue to remain miserable with myself. After my pregnancy I knew I was going to continue my journey of losing weight, but I didn't know if I was going to continue Huff 'n Puff to Buff 'n Tough or shut it down. I thought long and hard and I decided to keep it going. I worked too hard to just let it go and quit. It's great support for myself and others, accountability, and all the other perks that come with being a blogger is just a plus.

After Harlie Jade was born, my main focus was adjusting to life with a newborn. She is now 4 months old and I finally have a handle on things and adjusted to life with an infant and I am so happy and grateful to be her mom. I am happy to say that I am continuing my journey and I am ready to rock n roll!!! Round 2.... here I come!
