May 2013 Foodie Penpals Reveal Day

The Lean Green Bean

I have come across an awesome program called "Foodie Pen Pals". When I read more information about the program I was instantly drawn in. I thought it would be fun to do something I have never done before. I have come across so many amazing opportunities, communities, people, and programs such as Foodie Pen Pals since I started blogging. I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to meet other bloggers, form new friendships, connections, and try new foods I have never tried before or even thought about trying. I thought I'd give this program a try and participate.

How does it work: You get matched up with another person to send them a box of goodies with a $15 limit. You won't receive a box from the same person you are sending a box to. Someone else will be matched up to you to send you a box. I will post more information at the bottom of this post.

Now that you are a little more familiar, let's get to the fun stuff!!!!!

My very first Foodie Pen Pal box came from Alex at Alex Tries It Out. I loved everything I received! She hit the spot with the items she choose for me.

Goodies I received

  • All Natural Popchips - Barbeque Potato
  • Kind Fruit & Nut bar - Fruit and nut delight
  • Berres Brothers Coffee Roasters - Turtle Sundae
  • Cadbury Dairy Milk - Milk Chocolate
  • Cookies Premium Salsa - Mild
  • Ginos Steak Seasoning

The Kind Fruit & Nut bar was pretty good. Even though I prefer other brands of granola bars, this one was still pretty yummy. I am in LOVE with the Ginos Steak Seasoning. I have been using it on all of the boneless skinless chicken I have been making lately. I am absolutely in LOVE with the Popchips!!!!! They make a great snack, for me anyways. Only 120 calories for 28g/about 20 chips, 4g of fat. I have not been able to try the coffee roasters yet so I really can't say too much about those. The chocolate was delish and my husband really loved the chocolate! The Cookies salsa made a nice touch to the nachos my husband and I made. Probably some of the best salsa I have tasted so far. My husband said, "I have never heard of Cookie's Salsa and where is she getting all this good stuff with low calories?!" Lol!! Anyways.... Thank you so much Alex for my box. I really enjoyed everything.

To find out who I sent a box to and what I included check out Lauren's blog!

Can't wait for next month's Foodie Pen Pals!

Are you interested in joining us for Foodie Penpals next month? Here are some more details:
  • On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
  • The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
  • You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
  • Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
  • Foodie Penplas is open to US, Canadian & European residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. Same with Europeans. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

Are you Spartan tough? -Race announcement and giveaway-

In May 2014 I will be attempting my FIRST Spartan Race (the Spartan Sprint).

Reebok Spartan Race is on a mission to get you active, healthy, excited about change, and return to our ancient roots where running through woods, getting dirty, and facing adversity was part of everyday life. Their events are all about challenging today’s perception of normal.

Spartan Race events challenge the familiar, today’s perception of normal living and getting you out of your comfort zone!

Personally, I have not attended a race like this because I felt that I was not ready and tough enough to complete a race of this type, but I will be experiencing one soon!! I am super excited! Spartan Race wanted to make adventure racing more accessible to everyone, but do not be fooled by the word ‘accessible’, as their events have a challenge for everyone’s needs.

Spartan Race now introduces a level for everyone beginning with the entry level Spartan Sprint (which is the one I will be participating in), intermediate level Super Spartan, the advanced Spartan Beast, and the ‘99.9% need not apply’ extreme level Death Race. Whatever your level, Spartan Race will test your strength, stamina, and sense of humor.

I am excited to announce that I have ONE free race entry for the Spartan Race to giveaway to one lucky reader/follower. I can't wait to see who wins the race entry and I also want that lucky fan to share their experience and pictures with me and I will feature you on my blog and Huff 'n Puff to Buff 'n Tough facebook page. I love my readers and followers and I am so excited to have the opportunity to be able to offer this giveaway to you.

CLICK HERE to enter the giveaway. There are rules so please make sure you read everything.

If you do not win the free entry, don't worry. I have a code for 15% off of your registration fee! Just enter the code on this link

I will see you at the Spartan Race my Huff 'n Puff to Buff 'n Tough Spartan warriors!

Get down with the sickness....

When it comes to my weight loss, life has been throwing me a lot of curve balls lately, but I am not breaking down and taking a few days off like I had planned. As of late I have been feeling all kinds of sick due to my medications. The side effects are pretty bad, but I have not let that get in the way of getting my workouts done. I may half ass some of them during the days I feel like crap, but at least I am still doing something instead of nothing at all. I have not had much of an appetite lately so I have been eating very little, but still eating seeing as how it's pretty important and skipping meals is not an option. With everything I eat making me sick I have been eating like a bird lately. I am really proud of myself that I continue to stay strong with all that is going on and still getting things done! I have been feeling extremely nauseous as well and during workouts it's even worse so when I am feeling that way I slow it down and let it pass before I pick up the pace.

I ask myself this question often!

On another note... I kept telling myself not too long ago that I would NOT own a scale for various reasons. I figured there was no point in owning one because I had frequent visits with my neurologist every month or so and had a routine weighing. Well........ I ended up buying a scale a few days ago. My appointments have slowed down and are less frequent currently and I am on meds which can cause weight changes and in my case I hope weight loss instead of weight gain. So I need to monitor my weight for changes other than weight loss. Sooo.... this is my current weight (pictured below) and I have lost 25 lbs so far. I plan to continue weighing myself once a month. I am not hung up on scale numbers. Its the measurements that count!!! Especially in the beginning! Weighing myself once a month is good enough for me!

25 lbs lighter! YES!!!!
Hubby was out of work all last week with a virus and it was making me lethargic. I am pretty sure my neurological symptoms are acting up and playing a role in it as well. However, it's usually not this bad when he is at work and I am home alone. I had to push myself to workout and push myself through the workouts. All in all.... last week and this week has been tough for me when it comes to having the motivation to workout. Motivation or no motivation... the workouts have to get done and if I can help it and I am still physically able to move around without any MAJOR issues then there is no excuse. Even when I do not want to workout, I still love it and its an addiction I am happy to have.
